Boeta Cassiem, who has been selling ice cream and cooldrinks at Newlands for the past 55 years, opens up on the financial struggles for him under the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cassiem has become world famous for his charismatic and friendly approach as he roams the stands of Newlands, trying to sell something sweet, while watching his beloved Proteas in action.
According to him, he has become ‘part of the furniture’ at the iconic Newlands stadium and particularly draws the crowd’s attention with his funny and catchy introduction lines.

Cassiem, however, is feeling the effects of the strain from the coronavirus and is in dire need of money to have an eye surgery to remove cataracts.
His call has so far been heard far and wide on social media with many people trying to make some sort of a donation.
