Former Cape Cobras batsman David Bedingham turned 26 years old on Wednesday, 22 April 2020.

Not Kolpak

• Bedingham ended a burgeoning career with the Cobras earlier this year, instead opting for a contract with Durham in county cricket. Unlike Cobras teammates Dane Paterson and the Titans’ Farhaan Behardien, who have joined Nottinghamshire and Durham, respectively, Bedingham did not sign a Kolpak contract. He has an ancestral visa for the United Kingdom.

Above average

• Bedingham had the third-highest average in the 2019-20 4-Day Domestic Series. His 58.16, aggregated across eight innings, was third only to Knights batsmen Ryan van Tonder and Pite van Biljon, who managed 70.25 and 63.30, respectively. Bedingham’s final four innings for the Cobras averaged a whopping 211, admittedly boosted by two not-outs.

Best of the Boland

• Bedingham was captaining Boland in provincial first-class cricket when contracted by the Cobras. He was a trendsetter, of sorts, as Boland pair Isma-eel Gafieldien and Ziyaad Abrahams have since been contracted by the Cobras. Batsman Gafieldien could be viewed as Bedingham’s replacement, while seamer Abrahams joins a bowling attack that has lost trio Tladi Bokako, Lizaad Williams, Thando Ntini and others.
