Proteas wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has broken into the top 10 of the International Cricket Council’s rankings for T20I bowlers.

Shamsi took two wickets South Africa’s T20I series defeat by England earlier this month. He has moved up nine positions to eighth in the rankings.

‘I am excited to make mistakes along the way because now I have time to implement on them. Previously I was playing the odd game here and there and the mistakes I’ve made, it’s only three months later that I can try and implement lessons learned,’ he said recently, referencing a stop-start career prior to the ODI retirement of leg-spinner Imran Tahir.

‘There wasn’t that consistency. I’m excited and on the way there will be mistakes as well but for me, this feels like the beginning.

‘I’ve been involved with the team for a number of years but it was always the odd game here or there, so I’m excited for this new chapter.’

Openers Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma, meanwhile, have moved to 16th and 52nd position, respectively, in the ICC’s rankings for T20I batsmen. Middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen has climbed to 37th.

Right-handed batsman and right-arm bowler Dwaine Pretorius has been placed in 46th position in the ICC’s rankings for T20I all-rounders. He was previously 75th.
