Former Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Dane Vilas led Lancashire to triumph over Yorkshire in Thursday’s T20 Blast fixture at Headingley in Leeds.
The Lightning posted a final total of 170 for six on the back of Vilas’ 43. His cameo, against a Vikings attack spearheaded by former Proteas fast bowler Duanne Olivier and Dolphins seamer Matt Pilans, spanned a mere two dozen deliveries. Yorkshire were later limited to an insufficient 161 for nine.
Vilas played one T20I and six Tests between 2012 and 2016. He captain the Jozi Stars to the inaugural Mzansi Super League title last year.
Tahir for Surrey
Proteas leg-spinner Imran Tahir took three wickets in Surrey’s win over Glamorgan at The Oval. Tahir’s tally, overshadowed by Tom Curran’s hat-trick, saw Glamorgan bowled out for 44 in pursuit of a 142-run target. Former Proteas seamer Marchant de Lange’s four-for for Glamorgan, therefore, went in vain.
No AB for Middlesex
Middlesex went without ex-Proteas captain AB de Villiers, who was sidelined by a hand injury, in defeat to Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. The hosts won despite a duck from batsman Ian Cockbain, who played club cricket in South Africa earlier this year.
Several current and former Proteas will feature in the T20 Blast over the weekend, including Essex’s Simon Harmer, Northamptonshire’s Dwaine Pretorius, Hampshire’s Chris Morris, Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossouw and others.
