David Warner hit the sixth 150-plus score in his career to help set up Australia’s 48-run win against Bangladesh in Nottingham.
The Aussie opener was sensational. He reached his first half-century off 55 balls, his century 55 balls later and faced 29 more deliveries thereafter to reach the 150-run mark.
During this time, he built two crucial partnerships before losing his wicket.
Warner strung together 121 runs with Australia captain Aaron Finch (53) before the skipper lost his wicket and then Warner put on a spectacular 192-run stand with Usman Khawaja (89) to take Australia to 313 by the 45th over.
Warner then lost his wicket, finishing on 166 off 147 balls (14 fours and five sixes).
Glenn Maxwell (32) and Khawaja took Australia past 350 before losing their wickets, followed by Steve Smith for one. Marcus Stoinis (17) and Alex Carey (11) took Australia to 381-5 in the last three overs.
Soumya Sarkar was effective with the ball by dismissing Australia’s top three and finishing with figures of 3-58 despite Australia’s punishing total.
Bangladesh once again put on a brave show with the bat, but they fell plenty of runs short by the end of their 50 overs.
Tamim Iqbal (62), Shakib Al Hasan (41), Mushfiqur Rahim (102 not out) and Mahmudullah (69) gave it their all but could not keep up with the required run rate needed to chase down the daunting 382-run target.
The win for Australia pushed them temporarily to first in the World Cup standings.
