Fourteen wickets were taken on the second day of the 4-Day Domestic Series clash between the EP Warriors and the Boland Rocks at St George’s Park on Friday.
Resuming the day on 235-8, the Warriors were bowled out having added just seven runs to their overnight score, with spinner Shaun von Berg taking 6-76.
In reply, the evergreen Stiaan van Zyl scored 93 off 131 deliveries before Von Berg contributed 49 off 72 to help boost the visitors to 259 and a 14-run lead.
Tiaan van Vuuren (3-35), Glenton Stuurman (2-54) and Dane Paterson (2-50) were the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors, who reached stumps on 75-2 – 61 runs ahead.
In Durban, the Central Gauteng Lions declared on 428-5, as all-rounder Wiaan Mulder added 52 off 124 balls to compliment the centuries scored by Joshua Richards (151) and Reeza Hendricks 136) on the first day.
A crucial 66 off 110 deliveries from Grant Roelofsen helped the Dolphins to 189-4 at the close of day two, with the home side still 239 runs behind.
At the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein, Western Province recorded a massive 501-6 dec in their first innings as they built off the work from David Bedingham (199) and Tony de Zorzi (97).
The Knights fought hard to reach 190-5 at the close of play, still trailing by 311 runs after half-centuries from Nathan Roux (63 off 174) and captain Pite van Biljon (52 off 98).
In Potchefstroom, the Northerns Titans trail the North West Dragons by three runs after being dismissed for 246. Heinrich Klaasen starring with the bat, scoring 128 off 185 balls.
After being skittled for 147 in their first innings, the Dragons battled their way to 102-4 at stumps. Former Titans stalwart Heino Kuhn scored an unbeaten 71 off 100 balls.
In Division Two, there was no play possible in White River between the Mpumalanga Rhinos and the Limpopo Impalas due to rain, while the Northern Cape Heat took charge of their encounter against the Eastern Storm by posting 434-5 dec before their opponents replied with 255-6.
In Pietermaritzburg, South Western Districts take a 151-run lead over the KZN Inland Tuskers into day three. The visitors were bowled out for 315 before the Tuskers ended the day on a commanding 164-1 after just 26.3 overs.
