A brilliant partnership between Mandish Pandey and Vijay Shankar inspired the Sunrisers Hyderabad to just their fourth win in this season’s IPL as they proved too strong for the Rajasthan Royals.
Batting second, and looking for their first victory when chasing a total, the Sunrisers Hyderabad would have been confident of reaching the modest total of 155 set for victory by the Royals.
However, they endured an early wobble when some superb pace bowling from England superstar Jofra Archer sent openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow back to the change room.
Pandey then walked to the crease, and set about smashing the bowlers to all parts of the ground, ultimately ending on an unbeaten 83 in a 140-run partnership with Shankar (52*).
Earlier in the day, Sanju Samson had top-scored for Rajasthan with 36, but he was ultimately one of three wickets claimed by the impressive Jason Holder (3-33).
Rashid Khan (1-20) and Vijay Shankar (1-15) also produced top displays with the ball, with the bowlers backed up by the top efforts of the ever-impressive Pandey.
A well made half-century for @im_manishpandey off 28 deliveries.
