Proteas coach Russell Domingo will remain in South Africa indefinitely after his mother passed away on Sunday night.
Domingo had to return to South Africa over two weeks ago during the T20 series against England, when his mother was involved in a car accident in Port Elizabeth. He headed back to South Africa again, with the news that his mother’s condition deteriorated dramatically on Sunday morning.
By the time he got back, his mother had passed away, at 11PM.
It’s unknown when Domingo, who revealed last week that he reapplied for the role as head coach, will return to England during this difficult time.
The second Test gets under way at Trent Bridge on Friday, as the Proteas look to come back from their disappointing 211-run defeat.
